A BLUEBELL ROAD CHRISTMAS
I've started my newest book and I thought I would blog here about the writing process and how its going. Besides, that would be a good motivator as well to keep on track, inbetween my day job and everything else that might crop up in this thing we are in known as LIFE!!
The book is...
A BLUEBELL ROAD CHRISTMAS
It is the fourth in the Bluebell Road series, which has been centered around the flatmates on Bluebell Road, in London.
By the end of book three, Julia, Katie and Lydia have all been partnered up, and they still live at the flat. To have another book in the series, how does that work because I want the protagonist to live in the flat too.
Enter Ethan Black.
When I wrote the first book, I had an idea for two side characters, Clarissa Bartley and Ethan. Ethan works on the Bartley's department store Christmas display and it is inferred he's had a bit of a thing for Clarissa Bartley who along with her brother Nick run the posh store in central London. Clarissa is also married with four kiddies and a fifth on the way, although the marriage ends in the first book.
So thats what I started with.
I figured Ethan needs to stay at Bluebell Road for a short period, over Christmas while one of the other flatmates does something else for a month.
He just needs a place to crash.
And of course this all takes place over Christmas and I love Christmas and I can't wait to write a story about Christmas!
I have no plot. I can't plot. I mean, I sort of can, but most of my books have happened as I have started writing. I just have to start writing and then the story comes.
I know a bit about Clarissa, although I had to do some work on figuring her out more, and the same for Ethan but in a way, that also will come as I write, along with the plot. I have no idea what happens in this story. All I have started with is that Ethan sees the flat, meets the flatmates, and they all agree he can move in for the month. That is it.
I figure I'm in good company not knowing what happens with a story when I start it. Lee Child wrote his Jack Reacher books not knowing where they were going, sometimes right up to the end. In fact, I think all of my books have pretty much been written that way. Sometimes I've tried to plot something out but I have to start or its just a huge mental blank of... what do I write?
My goal for this is to have the book published sometime in November.
We'll see how it goes.
