Books on audio
I recently discovered that my library has a whole heap of Betty Neels books on their digital platform. Betty Neels wrote romance novels for Mills and Boon until she was well into her nineties and she wrote over one hundred of them: I have a few of her paperbacks on my book shelves.
The stories are often very similar: the heroine is usually living in difficult, poor circumstances and the hero is most usually a doctor, frequently an esteemed surgeon, and is often Dutch (Betty's own husband was Dutch and a doctor.) So while there is a certain sameness to the stories, and you would certainly be aware of that if you read half a dozen in a row, there are times you just feel like reading a nice and cosy Betty Neels. A good old, comfort read with a happy ever after. Below is a picture of one of the older covers, which I think is just lovely!
